Edenvale burglar sentenced to six years

A 50-year-old man from Makause informal settlement received a six-year sentence after he was found guilty by the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court of house break-in and theft in the Edenvale area.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the sentencing, which the police welcomed, was handed down by the court on July 30.

“The decision by the court was formed by overwhelming evidence presented by the victims as well as the investigator and leading evidence by the prosecutor,” said Mashile.

He said the crime was committed in Edenvale in September 2018.

Edenvale SAPS acting station commander Lt-Col Unice Nzuza indicated this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others.

She commended Det Sgt K Monareng for securing the sentencing.
