Edenvale Police Station communication officer Sgt Jacob Mashile said the men, aged 48 and 56 years old, were arrested by Rabie Ridge police officers from the Gauteng Highway Patrol.

Mashile said the officers were patroling on Modderfontein Road when they spotted a White Toyota Hilux bakkie with two occupants.

After identifying the suspicious vehicle the officers followed the car.

Mashile said when the  suspects noticed that they were being followed  they started driving faster.

“The driver started to indicate right but he turned to the left,” said Mashile. “Officers switched on their siren and their blue lights to stop the suspects’ vehicle.

“After stopping the suspects’ vehicle, constables Ncube and Khumalo approached it and asked permission to search the vehicle and occupants,” said Mashile.

While searching the vehicle officers found a black jacket behind the passenger’s seat

“Under the jacket there were two black school bags and inside those bags there were R200 notes,” said Mashile.

He said the officers asked the suspects who owned the money but the suspects did not say anything.

“The suspects were arrested and taken to Rabie Ridge Police Station to be processed.”

Mashile said the suspects will appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on September 13.
