One caught in Edenvale after shootout with SAPS

Police believe at least four suspects fled the scene of the shootout. 

One suspect was arrested while several others fled the scene of a business robbery earlier this evening in Edenvale.

Edenvale Police Station communications officer Sgt Jacob Mashile said police were alerted to a business robbery on Andries Pretorius Road after a community member reported the crime.

He said officers were pursuing the suspects’ vehicle when the suspects stopped at the corner of First Avenue and Aitken Road and opened fire at the officers.

Mashile said the officers returned fire.

He said during the shootout one suspect was wounded.

Police believe at least four suspects fled the scene of the shootout.

Mashile said officers were still trying to locate the injured suspect.

“The suspects fled in the direction of the N3,” said Mashile.

“The arrested suspect was found to be in possession of a firearm and was arrested on charges in related to business robbery.”
