Thornhill couple celebrates 67 years of love

“Modderfontein is special to me as it is where we started our married life and I have very fond memories of our time here.”

Rand Aid Association Thornhill Manor Retirement Village residents Jack (90) and Hilda (91) Lacy recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

The couple celebrated their anniversary on August 3.

They got married in a congregational church in Blackburn, Lancashire, in England in 1953.

Hilda and Jack, who have two sons and two grandchildren, spent most of their married life in Modderfontein.

“Modderfontein is special to me as it is where we started our married life and I have very fond memories of our time here,” said Hilda.

While Jack was a research chemist, who loved working with his hands, Hilda was a secretary, who enjoyed being in a drama society for many years.

They both loved hiking and church work.

“After our wedding, we left for Stratford-upon-Avon, but waited on the wrong platform and missed the train,” said Hilda.

“Finally, we arrived, but had to walk at midnight to our hotel through the cemetery,” says Hilda.

The couple has lived at Thornhill Manor for the past 17 years.

Hilda describes the residents and staff as friendly and helpful.
