NCPD encourages the community to support Casual Day

With Casual Day coming up, the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has encouraged community members to support its annual fund-raising campaign.
Based in Edenvale, the rights-based organisation hopes to raise funds through the sale of its Casual Day merchandise.
This year, Casual Day will be held on September 3.

Public relations officer and communications support for the NCPD Dylan Mashele said through Casual Day, the council can assist thousands of lives.
“One of the biggest challenges persons with disabilities face when trying to access mainstream programmes are negative attitudes,” said Dylan.
He explained it is these attitudes that lead to the social exclusion and marginalisation of persons with disabilities.
The NCPD appealed to the public to help change the mindset and behaviour of the public by participating in projects like Casual Day.
“2020 was a challenging year for everyone and Casual Day project owner NCPD has worked tirelessly with partners to not only support persons with disabilities in SA but to also encourage the project to ensure a fruitful future for the country’s most marginalised and vulnerable citizens,” said Dylan.
He said this year’s theme for Casual Day is courage and kindness.
“As the NCPD’s flag awareness and fund-raising project, Casual Day, has grown over the past 27 years into the most prominent and successful social advocacy campaign in SA history.
“Our main aim is to appeal to the public for their participation and donations, which go towards the purchase of nappies, assistive devices, education, universal design and arts and craft,” said Dylan.
Since 1995, the project has raised R404 713 000.
Dylan said those interested can purchase Casual Day stickers and merchandise through the Casual Day website.
Alternatively, supporters can visit Loot Online, Jet stores, Alpha Pharmacy, The HUB, JAM clothing, Toys and Babies R Us.
