Iyoni Creek breaks own record while assisting NPO

Rand Aid Association’s Inyoni Creek Retirement Village residents broke their record for the number of knitted squares they completed for NPO 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

Residents of the retirement village celebrated Mandela Month by knitting 1 602 squares during July.

“We would like to thank all of our knitters and some of their friends for knitting for this very worthwhile cause,” said Inyoni Creek deputy manager Marinda Looyen.

“The ladies will be very happy to know they broke their record this year.

“Last year they knitted 1 529 squares,” she said.

The squares will be sewn together to make blankets the NPO will donate to those most in need.

“We also received a huge donation of wool from Cummins, which we will distribute to our ladies, who mostly used their own wool to knit the squares,” said Marinda.
