Mandela Day fun for St Ben’s

The boys at St Benedict’s Preparatory School were not to be deterred by these obstacles and rose to the challenge.

This year the usual offering of 67 minutes to a community or organisation in need proved to be a challenge.
South Africa is in level four lockdown and schools are closed to face-to-face teaching.
The boys at St Benedict’s Preparatory School were not to be deterred by these obstacles and rose to the challenge.
They were asked to spend 67 minutes away from their screens, building games that could be used by boys and girls their own age.
The games needed to teach a skill and at the same time provide fun and enjoyment.
The boys were also encouraged to use recycled materials to build their games.
On their return to school, the games will be collected and then distributed to schools and crèches in need.
“We have no doubt the boys had as much fun building the games as the children who receive them will have playing them. We are proud of our boys for living our school motto of truth in charity,” shared the deputy head at St Benedict’s Preparatory School, Francene Kapp.
