Several parts of Edenvale left without power

“Technicians first need to identify and fix the cable then rectify the Croydon Substation to restore power to the Horwood Substation.”

Residents in parts of Edenvale can expect to remain without power until the end of the week.

According to Ward 18 Clr Heather Hart, cable theft along the line to Eskom’s Croydon Substation caused the station to trip and led to the widespread power outage in Edenvale on July 19.

She said the Horwood Substation, which receives power from the Croydon Substation, was affected as a result.

Hart said Edenvale’s energy department tried to assist the community by including as many properties, which receive power from the Horwood Substation, on the grids of the two remaining substations.

Because the electricity network may not be as stable as it normally would be, Hart advised residents to use electricity sparingly despite the cold weather.

“Technicians first need to identify and fix the cable then rectify the Croydon Substation to restore power to the Horwood Substation,” said Hart.

“For the time being, most of Hurlyvale, a portion of Edenglen and a small part of Elma Park still do not have electricity.”

Hart said technicians have worked tirelessly to remedy the matter.

She said power should be restored to all suburbs in Edenvale by Friday.

Hart appealed to the community to look out for the elderly and encouraged those with electricity and additional fridge and freezer space to offer it to those affected.
