SPCA asks for donations after looting

“The last 16 months have had a devastating effect on SPCA and two instances of theft in a short period have left us in disarray and highlighted our need for assistance with securing the property.”

The Germiston and Bedfordview SPCA was not spared from looting and riots in the Germiston area on July 11.

The SPCA offices were ransacked and equipment taken.

“Our staff are traumatised, although animals and staff on site were not harmed.

“But the equipment that assists us to do our work was taken,” said Roxanne Bredenkamp, SPCA management committee for fund-raising and marketing.

The looters took a stove, microwaves, a printer and a laptop.

“We have lost valuable resources which we need to do our work,” said Brendenkamp.

She said it is sad how the SPCA has been a victim of crime the past few months.

“The last 16 months have had a devastating effect on SPCA and two instances of theft in a short period have left us in disarray and highlighted our need for assistance with securing the property.

“We need our community’s assistance to rebuild and get back on our feet and do better,” said Brendenkamp.

She said they wish to raise funds for crucial repairs, technology and infrastructure replacement and security upgrades.

She said they are grateful for the support they have been receiving for the community through this difficult time.

“We are extremely grateful to the community for the overwhelming support so far.

“By donating much-needed funds towards our society, we can ensure we continue doing the essential work needed for the voiceless animals in our community,” said Brendenkamp.

She said any donation is welcome to assist the SPCA to get back on its feet and continue to do their work.

As July is Mandela Month, the SPCA is raising funds to reach its goal of R67 000. All donations are tax-deductible and a Section 18A certificate can be sent if requested.

Those who are interested in donating can deposit the money into the SPCA bank account:
