MS survivor commends Greenstone’s Courtney

My philosophy with my MS has always been, ‘I have MS, MS does not have me’ and you can apply this to any condition you may be faced with.

Editor – I would like to commend Courtney Hawkshaw, whose story was published in the July 7 edition of the NEWS, for her brave stance with her multiple sclerosis (MS).

I was diagnosed with the same condition in 1992 and I have lived positively with it for 29 years.

I want to encourage her and others diagnosed with it to keep moving forward.

My philosophy with my MS has always been, ‘I have MS, MS does not have me’ and you can apply this to any condition you may be faced with.

Once you let it have you, you give it power over your life, and you don’t want to do that.

I have achieved many things in my life, despite my MS causing a walking disability and, if you can’t do things you want to in the way others do, find another way.

My late husband, Paul, gave me valuable advice, ‘use the tools’. There is usually something or someone that can assist you to achieve your goal.

Whether it is equipment, medication, medical professionals, assistive devices, other tools or friends or family, investigate and use them.

I have two wonderful children, five delightful grandchildren, and am living with having lost two special husbands but with faith, my life goes on and is good.

If you’d like to hear more of my story, look at the Facebook Wow Moms of SA post of July 9.

All the very best on your MS journey, Courtney.

You have the right attitude.
