Councillors urge citizens to be vaccinated
The two councillors said they wanted to lead by example and encourage residents to get vaccinated.
While Gauteng continues to be the epicentre of the third wave of Covid-19 infections, people who are eligible to get vaccinated are encouraged to do so.
Clr Alta de Beer in Germiston and Clr Jill Humphreys from Bedfordview received their vaccinations last week in Bedfordview.
The two councillors said they wanted to lead by example and encourage residents to get vaccinated.

De Beer said she was concerned about the response she had been receiving from some people who said they don’t want to get vaccinated.
“Because of all the fake information making the rounds, people are not willing to get vaccinated, especially in the informal settlement. We have elderly people who I want to encourage to get vaccinated,” said de Beer.
Humphreys said she had some concerns before getting the vaccination.
“I was worried about my immune system. This is all new for everyone and we still don’t know enough about it but I’m happy I have been vaccinated and would encourage others who are eligible, to do the same,” said Humphreys.
De Beer advised residents to be patient when they go to get vaccinated.
“Whether you are getting vaccinated at one of the public hospital sites or at a private pharmacy, make sure you’re not in a rush. Don’t be afraid to ask the question if you are not sure about something,” said de Beer.
The two councillors received the Pfizer vaccine and will be going for the second one in August.
