One hundred and ninety suspects were put behind bars by police officers who worked from June 30 until the early hours of July 1.

District commissioner Maj Gen Anna Mateisi led the recent operation O Kae Molao in Germiston.

Capt Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communications officer, said the suspects were nabbed for cases ranging from armed robberies, common assault, assault GBH, gender-based violence, attempted robberies, attempted murder, business burglaries, common robbery, contravention of a court order, contravention of protection order, fraud, housebreaking and theft, reckless and negligent driving, tampering with infrastructure and hijacked building among other crimes.

Members also recovered Mandrax tablets, dry lights, bags of dagga, a black dustbin full of dagga, electric kettles, yellow hose pipes and dagga trees during the operation.

“The operation continued in Germiston and Ivory Park on Thursday morning by the SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng traffic and other law- enforcement agencies,” added Sekgobela.

She also mentioned that on the M2 Road Germiston, 55 traffic fines to the value of R56 000 were issued to those who contravened the Road Traffic Act.

Mateisi thanked the members for their efforts and also ensuring that level four lockdown regulations are taken seriously.
