Owethu shines on the tennis court

Owethu played the Soweto TSA ProKennex Mini 1 Tennis Tournament in the u-18 category.

During the recent school holidays, Owethu Makhanya, a Grade Nine learner at St Andrew’s School for Girls participated in three Tennis South Africa (TSA) tournaments.

Owethu played the Soweto TSA ProKennex Mini 1 Tennis Tournament in the u-18 category.

She was seeded number three and made it to the semi-finals, losing a tight match 10-4 in a tiebreaker.

She placed fourth overall out of 32 players.

She also played in the Gauteng Central Marks Park Grand Prix Tennis Tournament in the u-16 category.

She was seeded six and made it to the quarterfinals where she lost to the second seed. She placed sixth out of 32 players.

Owethu was then invited to play nationals in Bloemfontein.

She lost her first match against the 15th seed in the country but won all her other matches beating the eighth and 12th ranked players.
