Mother appeals for community’s help to find son

“A few weeks later calls started coming in from the Edenvale area with possible sightings,”

“I just want my son to come home, the family misses him terribly, we all want to know that he is all right.”

These are the words of Lynda du Plooy, mother of missing person Keegan who is fighting to prevent her son’s case from going cold.

Lynda appealed to the community for assistance in finding her son after Keegan was possibly sighted in Edenvale several months ago.

The 26-year-old Kempton Park resident went missing last year on July 23 after he left Pretoria North Court.

It is believed he was on his was way home after a court appearance.

He has a tattoo of a cross on the inside of his right forearm and text tattooed on the inside of his left forearm, he also has a tattoo on his chest.

Keegan has blue/green eyes, brown hair and is about 1.7m tall, he has a scar on his throat and a scar from an operation on his ankle.

Keegan was last seen wearing black puma tracksuit pants, a black top and blue Tommie shoes.

Following his disappearance, the family opened a missing person case with SAPS and approached SA Community Crime Watch (SACCW) Missing Persons Unit for assistance.

Mike Venter of SACCW said soon after creating the missing person flyer, there were reports of sightings of Keegan in the Pretoria area. However, upon following up with those who had reported seeing Keegan, they had not seen him for several days

“A few weeks later calls started coming in from the Edenvale area with possible sightings,” said Mike.

A field team consisting of SACCW members and Edenvale SAPS Cost Flamantakis and Langley (who assisted while off duty) interviewed several homeless individuals, some of whom recognised Keegan and confirmed he was in the area.

“A soup kitchen, in Edenvale, was also visited where staff there confirmed he paid a daily visit for a meal,” said Mike.

“Unfortunately, he never returned. Return trips have been made in search but sadly to no avail.”

Lynda said another reason for wanting Keegan to be home safe is because he was diagnosed with bipolar.

As far as she is aware Keegan has been off his medication since last year.

“He has functioned without the medication in the past and he has never been aggressive or hurt anyone, but we don’t know what’s happened in the past year or what he has gone through.”

Lynda appealed to the community to try and get photographic evidence if they think they have found Keegan and to contact SACCW or the police.

“The family will always love and support Keegan no matter what,” said Lynda.
