Mgiba said she founded the old age home when she experienced feelings of helplessness after being wheelchair-bound for a year and a half.

The old age home started as a feeding scheme, but after a year people asked whether she could accommodate and care for elderly residents. Mgiba expressed her gratitude for the assistance they received.

“I’m really happy. I don’t even know what to say.”

According to Sgt Mitta Boloi and Sgt Ronny Romaro, the SAPS needs to show it cares for its community.

They said the police want to show they are a force for good and not just there to arrest people.

The donation was made possible by Edenpark SAPS, Bedfordview SAPS, SAPS Social Development, Edenridge Secondary School and Maseko of Palm Ridge Extension Nine.

Brig Nomthandeki Mthembu, from the detective and forensic services branch of the SAPS head office, joined them on the day and commended the work between officers and the community.
