Round Table welcomes all

“We uplift each other, then focus on making a difference and improving the community.”

With winter upon us, Round Table Edenvale 63 started its annual Winter Knights collection drive to gather much-needed donations for community members in need.

The association called on the community to assist by supporting the drive and donating, blankets, winter clothes and non-perishable food items.

Chairperson of the Edenvale branch Shaun Senekal said the branch has a collection point at Meadowdale Toyota where community members can drop off items.

He explained that Toyota is the main sponsor for the drive nationally.

Other projects the branch members worked on this year include collecting Easter eggs for the residents of Edenhaven Retirement Village and partnering up with Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy (ELBA).

Shaun said the members collected over 300 Easter eggs, which they delivered to the residents of the retirement home.

With the help of the Ladies Circle, a global network for women up to the age of 45, which Shaun described as Round Table’s sister organisation, donations were delivered to 10 families in need identified by ELBA.

Shaun said Round Table donated food towards the parcels, while Ladies Circle ensured the necessary sanitary products and toiletries were included in the parcels.

Besides assisting those in need, the Edenvale branch hopes to grow its members and host social events for the community.

Shaun said social events will be held with the hopes of creating awareness about the association and allowing community members to interact with its members.

“We hope to have family days for the community and our members.

“We want to create a welcoming platform for guests.

“With its clubhouse, which is older than 100 years old, based at 115 Thirteenth Avenue, community members can hire the venue out for functions,” said Shaun.

He said Round Table Edenvale 63 is one of the few branches which owns its clubhouse.

Speaking on membership, Shaun said men between the ages of 18 and 45 can become members.

“The official meetings are just for men but everything else is inclusive and family-orientated,” said Shaun.

“We uplift each other, then focus on making a difference and improving the community.

“Our motto is adopt, adapt and improve.”

Shaun said Round Table Gauteng recently entered a partnership with action arena and will launch an indoor cricket league.
