A woman was arrested on May 11 after she was found with narcotics stashed in the soles of packaged shoes. The arrest was made by the EMPD K9 unit following a tip-off from a courier service on Barbara Road, Elandsfontein.

The packaged shoes were destined for the Netherlands. Spokesperson for the EMPD Kobeli Mokheseng said when officers arrived at the premises, the woman was visibly shaken and told officers she lived in Johannesburg.

He said the woman was placed under arrest after narcotics-detection dogs positively responded to the package. On further inspection, officers found four silver packets made from duct tape containing heroin.
