Demolition of wall was in line with law enforcement

Residents of Ekurhuleni are urged to comply with the City’s by-laws.

This appeal comes after a video of a law enforcement operation during which an illegal structure was demolished in Vosloorus went viral on social media.

The MMC for community safety, Clr Phaladi Mmoko, said the video showed members of the EMPD demolishing the wall outside a property on April 25 as part of a by-law enforcement operation.

“This followed numerous complaints from the community about the property and a petition was even presented to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. “Among the concerns were noise pollution, encroaching on a municipal servitude and erecting a structure that obstructed the way for pedestrians to walk safely on the side of the road,” said Mmoko in a statement.

The MMC urged residents to refrain from building structures that are prohibited and infringe on municipal by-laws.

“We are happy that the community of Vosloorus took up the role of active citizenship by raising their concerns to authorities,” he said. “Residents who wish to make any structural changes to their properties must present their plans to the City Planning offices, at their nearest customer care centre, to ensure their plans are in line with the municipal regulations.”
