EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit officers arrested three male suspects for possession of narcotics, including cannabis and Mandrax. EMPD acting spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said the confiscated Mandrax tablets and 1570.5g of dagga were valued at R24 000.

“R1 740 cash, believed to have been accumulated unlawfully, was also confiscated.”

Mokheseng said the arrests were made after an Edenvale ward councillor complained to the EMPD about criminals illegally operating freely in the streets and corridors of Edenvale.

He said the three men were arrested on the morning of April 29, following a stakeout by the drug enforcement unit. Mokheseng said the men were stopped and searched while on Republic Road in Eastleigh, where they were found with the narcotics and a digital scale.

“The arrested men, whose visit to SA from Tanzania is under scrutiny, face charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances,” said Mokheseng. “They were taken to the Edenvale Police Station and are expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.”
