Giant potholes a concern in Bedfordview

“One of the biggest problems is that none of the City’s departments have the capacity to repair or reinstate roads,” she told the NEWS.

According to Ward 20 councillor for Bedfordview, Jilly Humphreys, the appalling state of the roads in Bedfordview can be attributed to several factors.

“One of the biggest problems is that none of the City’s departments can repair or reinstate roads,” she told the NEWS.

The NEWS recently met with Humphreys and several residents at the intersection of Florence and Daws roads in Bedfordview.

Humphreys said that while the pothole at the intersection was shocking, it was by no means the only sizable one in the area.

“The pothole is a prime example of the issues in Bedfordview. This particular problem was the result of a burst water pipe. While the leak was repaired, the road has not been reinstated and this has caused the large pothole,” Humphreys said.

She added that the departments that were supposed to have fixed the roads either have no tar or vehicles have not been licensed or also need repair. The NEWS sent an enquiry for comment on this matter as well as further questions to the City of Ekurhuleni on April 12.

Comment was requested by April 16. At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
