Victim in stable condition after Modderfontein Road shooting

It is not yet known if any valuables were taken during the incident as the matter is still under investigation.

Sandringham SAPS is investigating a case of attempted murder and attempted robbery following a shooting on the Modderfontein off-ramp of the N3 northbound.

The incident, during which a security officer was shot and injured, occurred last Thursday at approximately 6.20pm. Sandringham SAPS spokesperson WO Aaron Lebuso said an unknown amount of armed suspects attempted to rob a courier vehicle.

Lebuso said the security officer was airlifted to a hospital and is in a stable condition.

“It is unknown at this stage if the victim was responding to the scene or was caught in the crossfire. “It is not yet known if any valuables were taken during the incident as the matter is still under investigation,” said Lebuso.

Community members with any information about the matter are encouraged to contact Sandringham SAPS on 011 719 4821. Lebuso urged motorists to exercise caution and vigilance when making use of the N3 off-ramps between Modderfontein Road and Corlette Drive.

He gave the following advice:

• Be aware of the vehicle in front of and behind you.
• If your tyre is punctured, drive to the nearest petrol station or police station for assistance.
• If you find yourself in a robbery or hijacking, give the suspects your possessions and don’t fight back.

Lebuso said in most cases firearms are used in robberies and hijackings.
