A good place to keep a mushroom grow kit is on the kitchen counter in a place where it will not be affected by direct sun. Place the kit on a tray to catch excess water run-off. Grey oyster mushrooms are great for beginners as they can be grown easily.
When the kits start pinning, the mushrooms would usually be ready in three to five days. When not in use, the kits can be placed in the fridge. Mushrooms need moisture and humidity to grow. Once a family has mastered the art of growing a few oyster mushrooms, intermediate grow kits can be bought, which include Poplar mushrooms.
Mushroom recipe
Grey Oyster mushrooms are delicious and adding them to a simple pasta recipe can elevate the flavours.

You’ll need:
• 8 fresh grey Oyster mushrooms, roughly chopped
• 1 teaspoon of fresh crushed garlic
• 2 tablespoons of butter
• 1 sprig of fresh thyme
Method
• Place half the butter in a frying pan and melt on a medium to high heat.
• Add in the garlic and fry gently for about five minutes.
• Add in the mushrooms and cook until they begin to reduce in size.
• Drop in the remainder of the butter and the Thyme sprig and cook for five to eight minutes moving the mushrooms around in the butter.
• Add to pasta dish and serve.
