Dragons celebrate end of season on a high note

“After a rollercoaster of a season, our swimmers all showed their resilience and absolute determination in every race they swam.”

As the swimming season drew to a close, Dragons Swimming Club celebrated 218 best times and 58 medals (28 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze) its swimmers brought home.

“Our swimmers performed exceptionally well,” said head coach Theo Verster. The club placed fourth at the SSA SANJ Championships held at Delville, Germiston, from March 12 to 14. Out of the 46 participating clubs, the Dragons had the highest individual scoring swimmer. Ting Wei Deng (13) scored 120 individual points. Out of the 381 swimmers, Wei Deng was the only swimmer to score over 100 points.

In the level three category, Zuria Venter, Hannah Rigby and Kaylee Wiggill placed in the top 10 for overall individual points at Delville and hillcrest swimming events.

• Zuria obtained 162 points, was the top girl in the u-11 category and scored the most individual points as a female swimmer.
• Hannah scored 130 points and was the top girl in the u-13 category.
• Kaylee scored 109 points and was the top girl in the u-14 category.

“After a rollercoaster of a season, our swimmers showed their resilience and absolute determination in every race they swam,” said Verster. “They not only showed this in the pool but also in their commitment to training, no matter the circumstances. “We are excited for the season ahead and look forward to what is in store for our Dragons family.”

The Dragons team is preparing for Olympic trials which kicked off on April 7 and SNAT which will be held in the upcoming weeks.
