Magnificent results from Jeppe

It was an action-packed weekend of cricket for players from Jeppe Quondam on March 13 and 14. The clubs’ teams of all ages took to the field for their league games.

First up on Saturday was the Jeppe Joey’s. The u-11 side faced their Soweto rivals with a home ground advantage. Soweto’s coach Phumzile Majaja said it was great to play at the Quondam.

Soweto won the toss and elected to field first. Jeppe scored 91 runs with Soweto bowler 10-year-old Ompile Sikhosana taking 3/15 runs in just four overs. Going in to bat the Soweto visitors found themselves all out for 42 runs.

The club’s other u-11 side played away against Orange Farm in Lenasia South. The team won the match by 58 runs. Jeppe Joey, Mo Le Roux, scored his first club cricket 50. Next up was the 35 over women’s league played at Quondam against the Wanderers Chariots. The home team lost by 102 runs.

The Jeppe Saturday side played against Crescents at the Lenasia Stadium and won their match by 26 runs. They are on the top of their log. On Sunday, Jeppe’s Premier League A team played at the Quondam against Randburg.

Jeppe’s side batted first and scored an impressive 263 runs for the loss of four wickets. Jeppe’s Steffan Vorster was the top scorer with 91 not out off 87 balls while Louren Steenkamp smashing 72 runs off 112 balls.

The Randburg outfit accumulated 219 runs all out in their batting session giving Jeppe the win by 44 runs. Dwayne Araujo took 3/35 in 8.5 overs and Jeppe High School for Boys matric learner Dylan Nicholas bagged two wickets for the loss of 33 runs in nine overs. Dylan was also awarded his Premier A “baggie”.

Jeppe’s Premier League B played at Jeppe Boys against Florida CC and lost their match by three wickets. Byron Giradeaux scored 100. The Sunday Two side played at the Lenz Tech grounds against Big Bom Lenasia and lost by 282 runs.

The Lenasia side posted a massive 404 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. The Joes were bowled out for 122 runs in 42 overs.
