Edenvale High School welcomes new learners

This year the new Grade Eights were challenged not only to grow themselves but also to grow a spekboom sapling, which each of them received.

Edenvale High School (EHS) welcomed their new Grade Eights, the Class of 2025, when it held an induction ceremony for the new learners.

On March 1 the school held it annual induction ceremony; however, due to Covid-19 the event was streamed live on Facebook for parents and grandparents to watch from home.

Each learner rang the EHS bell, signifying their official entrance into the school, the moment they become true Valers.

This year the new Grade Eights were challenged not only to grow themselves but also to grow a spekboom sapling, which each of them received.

A spekboom is an indigenous plant which can easily be replanted using one of its branches. Principal Dr Larry Harmer challenged every Grade Eight learner to plant their spekboom and replant it 10 times before the end of their Grade Eight year.

If done, this will mean 3 000 spekboom will be planted by the end of this year. When the learners get to the end of their matric year, they will donate one of these plants to EHS.
