Quondam cricket players take to the field

The Jeppe Quondam Cricket Club players took various fields over the weekend of February 13 and 14 to showcase their skills. On February 13, Jeppe’s Saturday One took on Caxton Khosa at Jeppe Quondam.

Khosa batted first and accumulated 22 runs against the home side. In return, the Jeppe side reached their target in no time and won the match by nine wickets.
On February 14, Jeppe’s Premier A side took on the Soweto Pioneers in the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) Black Widow T20 tournament.

Jeppe chose to bowl first in the match, restricting Soweto to 115 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Jordan Hollard took two wickets for 12 runs in four overs while Matthew Hollard collected three wickets for 24 runs in his four-bowling overs.

Jeppe’s Lourens Steenkamp and Wesley Sleep put on a 50-run partnership in just 40 balls during the second wicket partnership. Steenkamp scored 38 runs off 33 balls and Sleep scored 40 runs off 33 balls, securing Jeppe’s five-wicket win over their Soweto rivals.

The home side’s Premier B team played a 50-over game against Randfontein in Randfontein. Jeppe’s bowlers took to the field first with Cian Robertson taking one wicket for 16 runs in 10 overs and James Enslin bagging two wickets for 26 runs in 9.2 overs.

Captain Dylan Nicholas took two wickets for 15 runs in six overs. Five overs into Jeppe’s batting spell, both teams were called off the field due to lightning and the match was called off and ended in a draw due to rain.

On Sunday, seven league players from Jeppe High School for Boys took on Bog Bom Lenasia. Lenasia won the game by one wicket. Jeppe player Eric Southey scored 52 runs.
