Bakkie stolen in Ivory Park recovered in Bedfordview

“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspects sped off, refusing to stop.”

Police recovered three weapons and arrested two suspects after a car chase which started in Malvern and ended at the corner of Van Buuren and Van Der Linden roads on February 18.

The two suspects were arrested by JMPD K9 officers and a third escaped after the suspects lost control of their vehicle, which rolled.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the suspects’ car rolled after they ignored red traffic lights. Fihla said officers were responding to a complaint of a White Isuzu KB 250 which was hijacked in Ivory Park.

“The vehicle was tracked and located on Jules Street, Malvern, with the assistance of Car Track. “Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspects sped off, refusing to stop.”

Fihla said a chase ensued from Jules Street to Bedfordview. Once the vehicle had rolled and the two suspects were arrested, police searched the vehicle and found the weapons.

Fihla added three firearms, a knife and phones were recovered by the officers. The suspects were arrested and detained at Bedfordview SAPS for armed hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms and a dangerous weapon (a knife).

The vehicle was booked in at the Benoni SAPS car pound for further investigation.
