CoE plans to curb flooding

The City of Ekurhuleni released a statement in which they state that the City’s Department of Roads and Stormwater has identified Germiston, Thembisa, Kempton Park and Thokoza as flooding hotspots due to the heavy rain experienced countrywide.

The head of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) Department for Roads and Stormwater, Sizwe Cele, said the rain has caused severe flooding across the City.

“We are on the ground inspecting recurring blockages in the flooding hot spots. We are monitoring low-level bridges and unblocking stormwater channels and canals,” Cele said.

Despite the City’s strategies to mitigate potential disasters during the rainy season, communities are warned that flooding may still occur and road users are urged to obey road signs.

Cele pleaded with communities to use pedestrian bridges and avoid crossing flooded roads.
