The number of clients making bookings to renew driver’s licences or obtain a learner’s licence in most driving schools across the City is dwindling as a result of the pandemic.
This is according to a statement released by the City of Ekurhuleni. Ben Maseko from TSZ Driving School in Tsakane says, “we are experiencing a decline in the number of clients coming to make bookings since the announcement of Covid-19 lockdown. Clients who make these bookings are frustrated by the required compliance with the protocol.

“We, however, give assurance that our trucks get disinfected after each learner driver’s turn. “We have a huge backlog of clients waiting for confirmation of bookings from the central booking system. We try to assist them to make their booking but they seldom find dates to have them tested,” he said.
Maseko said they had to lay off some staff because of the reduced number of clients. “We are grateful for the extension that the government has granted licence holders. It helps to make our work more convenient as a lot of learner drivers come to our offices when the validity of their licences is about to expire to seek our help.
Previously we could not help them but now that the extension is granted until August 2021, we can assist them more efficiently,” he said.
