12th Christmas party a success despite Covid-19

Smiles and laughs were the order of the day when the NEWS visited learners of Pinocchio Educare Centre during its annual Christmas Party.

Smiles and laughs were the order of the day when the NEWS visited learners of Pinocchio Educare Centre during its annual Christmas Party.

Nothing could stop the NEWS from hosting it’s favourite Caxton Cares calendar event, not even Covid-19.

Held on December 10, the 12th annual Christmas party was made possible through the generosity of NEWS readers and advertisers, namely Karaglen SUPERSPAR and De Backery.

Karaglen SUPERSPAR provided the children with a goodie bag filled with treats, a surprise and a Christmas cracker, while the De Backery provided cupcakes.

Chairperson of Child Welfare SA Edenvale and Bedfordview, which the educare centre falls under, Pieter le Roux said the learners truly appreciated the event.

“For the committee, it is about seeing the children smile. We appreciate everything so much,” said Pieter.

Although 2020 was a tough year for all, this year the community stepped up when the call was made to donate presents to the 34 learners at the centre.

A few days after the story, calling for the donations was published and almost all of the children on the list received a present.

With Covid-19 regulations in place, things were done a little differently this year.

Each child had a hula hoop, to ensure social distancing, they had to sit in and their gift was placed in their hoop for them to unwrap.

Once they unwrapped their gifts, they could enjoy it before having something to eat and enjoying the rest of the day with educare staff and welfare committee.
