Joint forces tighten noose on crime ring

According to the MMC for community safety, Clr Pheladi Mmoko, the latest arrest was also that of one of Ekurhuleni’s most wanted suspects.

Follow-up investigations relating to a high-profile probe resulted in a number of arrests.

The investigation led by a Joint Tactical Operation Team comprising officers from the EMPD Specialised Tasked Team, SAPS Flying Squad and others saw another man arrested on November 26.

According to the MMC for community safety, Clr Pheladi Mmoko, the latest arrest was also that of one of Ekurhuleni’s most wanted suspects.

In a statement released following the arrest, the office of the MMC confirmed the arrest was related to the November 10 raid on a house in Bedfordview.

In the November 18 edition of the NEWS it was reported that one man was arrested following the discovery of two women at a house in Bedfordview.

According to various sources on the scene, the women were held on the property against their will.

The MMC told the NEWS on the day the women claimed they were drugged and raped.

In addition, officers also seized a stolen motorbike, a firearm, numerous rounds of ammunition and over R200 000 worth of date rape drug Liquid G.

Following the latest in a string of arrests after the raid, the MMC said the investigating team worked around the clock to secure the arrests.

He added those arrested were linked to cases of attempted murder, drug dealing, kidnaping and torture, among other crimes.

“This is the third-largest breakthrough arrest by the police in Ekurhuleni in one month.”

The MMC added that on November 21 the team arrested five other suspects in Elsburg.

“This gang has terrorised the residents of Ekurhuleni and surrounding areas. The arrest of the suspects is one of the best ways to show women that during and beyond 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, the City of Ekurhuleni will fight for their safety.

“It took a thorough investigation, hard work and working with other stakeholders for these arrests to happen. More charges are expected to be added to the charge sheet of these suspects and more arrests cannot be ruled out,” said Mmoko.

The suspects will appear in court soon.
