Little Gems cares for 18 children of all ages with special needs.

“These include severe and complex, profound and multiple learning difficulties, language and communication impairments, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders, behaviour disturbance, cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome,” Cannelle told the NEWS.

All children in the care of the NGO live on the property.

“There’s nowhere else for our children to go and we make sure they are given a quality life,” she said.

Cannelle added that the centre does not receive any funding from the government and relies on the few parents that pay fees and donations from the community.

“We are open year-round and care for children and young adults with special needs.”
