In accordance with the law, AECI Mining Explosives will conduct an emergency exercise (simulation) on November 26 and invited community members to participate.
Classified as a Major Hazardous Installation and a National Key Point the facility is required by law to implement maintain and practice its emergency response plan annually. Community members living in the surrounding area are invited to participate.

The exercise or simulation allows all stakeholders to practise their emergency response plans with the intention of continuous improvement.
AECI urged community members to remain calm and respond in a calm and co-ordinated manner.
AECI’s five-step plan when you hear the 10-minute undulating siren.
- Move people and animals indoors as quickly as possible.
- Close all windows and doors.
- Switch off all air conditioning and ventilation devices.
- Stay indoors until you hear the 10-minute all-clear siren (a constant sound).
- If emergency services were called and are on scene, obey and follow their instructions.
