Security guard stable following Bedfordview shooting

A security guard stationed at Village View Shopping Centre in Bedfordview is in a stable condition after he was shot following an armed robbery at the centre last night.

Spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS Capt Andre de Jager said an unknown number of suspects entered a restaurant at the centre late yesterday afternoon.

“They held one patron at gunpoint and took his luxury watch before fleeing the scene,” he said.

De Jager said the security guard was shot when the suspects exited the restaurant building.

“He was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition.”

The Bedfordview SAPS opened a case of attempted murder and robbery.

“The case will be investigated by the provincial task team,” de Jager said.
