N3 freeway comes to a standstill

Law officials’ hands were full when both directions of the N3 freeway were obstructed by more than 30 trucks on October 25.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said between 3pm and 9pm the N3 freeway north and south direction came to a standstill.

“The trucks were parked between Grey Avenue off-ramp, Germiston and Petroport Vosloorus near two filling stations.

“Heavy-duty tow trucks from Sanral were summoned and other private car towing companies assisted while the liable truck owners were contacted to bring spare keys,” said Mokheseng.

He said SAPS members took statements from the truck drivers still on the scene.

“They claimed they were forced to block the freeway by unknown people in a white BMW sedan before they drove off with their truck keys.

“The EMPD officers with other law enforcers will continue to be visible and monitor public roads and places of interest, including freeways,” said Mokheseng.
