Keep children safe – Bedfordview SAPS

There is no waiting period to report a missing person.

The Bedfordview SAPS aims to keep children safe.

“Parents should always know where their children are,” said Lt Col Sinothi Ndaba, head of visible policing at the Bedfordview Police Station.

He said that while there have been no reported cases of kidnapping or child rape in the Bedfordview precinct the issue has been prioritised nationally by the SAPS.

“On average it takes four hours for a parent to realise that their child is not around anymore. Always make sure that you are aware of where your child is and who they are with,” he said.

Ndaba also reminded residents that there is no waiting period to report a missing person.

“A missing person or child should be reported immediately.”

He advised those needing to open a missing person file to take the following with them to the police station:

• A recent photograph of the missing person.
• Contact numbers of anyone who may have last had contact with the missing person.
• Their last intended destination.
• Description of the clothes they were wearing at the time of their disappearance.
