‘No confidence in services’ – Bedfordview resident

"We as residents of Bedfordview are unhappy by the lack of interest and response from the City of Ekurhuleni regarding the upkeep of the Bedfordview area."

EDITOR – We as residents of Bedfordview are unhappy by the lack of interest and response from the City of Ekurhuleni regarding the upkeep of the Bedfordview area.

Bothma Road and Hope Hughes Avenue are notorious criminal hiding spots; the SAPS has caught criminals in these thickets previously.

With the crime in the area and now with the lack of response from Ekurhuleni, we as residents have no confidence in their services.

They do not reply to responses and seem to be too lax in taking action.

Furthermore, it has come to our attention that the Firemen Cottages which was meant for government employees only has been sublet to non-government employees.

The place is totally unkempt and falling apart.

This is impacting negatively on the realty resale value of the houses on our streets.

Hereto, the municipality has failed to step in and do something.

Councillor Jill Humphreys has had several meetings in this regard pending complaints from residents and the municipality has blindly ignored her.

EDITOR’S COMMENT – The letter was sent to the spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Themba Gadebe, for comment.
He commented as follows: “A procurement process is at its advanced stage to get a new contractor in place. However, there is an attempt to attend to the untidiness left in the area.”
