Acting on information received from a whistleblower, members of the EMPD Compliance-Loss Control and Investigation Unit arrested a suspect at his workplace on October 14.
He works in the City of Ekurhuleni’s Finance Department offices at the Boksburg Civic Centre.
According to the EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the 34-year-old administrator, working in the property credit accounts section, allegedly prepared and forwarded a fraudulent credit clearance certificate to house sellers intending to relocate, after convincing them they have to pay R195 000 for the required certificate.

“It’s, however, at this stage not clear if the unlawfully proposed settlement was processed, but it was established sometime in 2019 that the initial outstanding amount owed by house sellers to the City of Ekurhuleni was R53 700 after local conveyancers specialising in estates, intervened,” explained Mokheseng.
Mokheseng added the employer is not even an authorised representative to handle some documents, as he has limited powers vested upon him.
Investigation continues and the alleged corrupt employer is detained at the Boksburg Police Station. He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
