WATCH: Better Bedfordview looking for suburb’s best pavements

“We are so fortunate to live in a beautiful suburb where people still walk, run and cycle in the streets. RAG’s vision is to keep our area safe, clean and beautiful, for everyone to enjoy."

As part of its Better Bedfordview initiative, Residents Action Group (RAG) has launched a competition to find Bedfordview’s “Best Pavements”.

Whether your green fingers produce beautiful blooms or delicious vegetables, this competition has categories to suit every gardener, said RAG chairperson Marina Constas.

She urged residents to start planting now and take part in what RAG hopes will become an annual competition that will help to uplift and beautify Bedfordview.

“There are great prizes up for grabs and the chance for residents to show how they are helping to unite and uplift our community and make Bedfordview better, cleaner, greener and more beautiful.

“Residents have spring and early summer to create their perfect pavements before the competition closes on October 28. The main aim of this competition is to promote clean, neat, attractive and pedestrian-friendly pavements in our beautiful suburb,” Constas said.

The competition’s categories are Best Indigenous or Waterwise Pavement, Best Edible Pavement (or food garden), Most Beautiful Pavement, and Bedfordview’s Best Pavement Overall.

All residents of Bedfordview are invited to enter.

Turning passion into positivity

“We are so fortunate to live in a beautiful suburb where people still walk, run and cycle in the streets. RAG’s vision is to keep our area safe, clean and beautiful, for everyone to enjoy.

“We can all make a positive difference in our suburb by looking after our pavements. We hope this competition will inspire residents to take the same pride in their pavements that they do in their homes,” Constas said.

With the Covid-19 crisis affecting food security and impacting many poor people in South Africa, RAG thought it was fitting to include a category for pavement food gardens.

“There are many heartwarming stories of South Africans cultivating pavement vegetable gardens to feed the poor. I am confident we have gardeners in Bedfordview who will rise to this challenge and enter their pavement food gardens in RAG’s competition while helping those in need,” she said.

To enter Better Bedfordview’s Best Pavements Competition, simply email your name, address and photos of your pavement to security@bedfordviewrag.co.za before the closing date of October 28.
