With the reopening of Khanyisa Trusts Soup Kitchen, chairperson Deon Gerber thanked the community for its continued support of the organisation.
“We are tremendously blessed and we can confirm that the daily provision of a hot takeaway meal is appreciated by all of our beneficiaries,” said Deon.
Although the continued support is much appreciated, donations from community members wanting to give back this Mandela Month would be welcomed.

“Under these difficult Covid-19 conditions and restrictions, we ask that if you do want to contribute or undertake any of the projects to contact us electronically beforehand.Items on this year’s wish list include:
Chest freezer – recent donations of cooked soup and Khanyisa’a storage capacity is under pressure while many freezers are approaching the end of their life.
- Donations of staple ingredients, list available from the office.
- A virtual vegetable chop and chat day.
Main Hall
- Replacement of fluorescent lights with energy-saving units.
Installation of wall-mounted fans to provide better ventilation and cooling in summer.
Cold Room
- De-grease and respraying shelves.
- Thermometer needs to be replaced.
Entrance to the facility
- The Khanyisa lettering needs refurbishment.
- Street number ’58’ needs refurbishment.
- The ceiling inside the outer gate and in the entrance to the building needs the cracks to be filled and re-painted.
- Movement sensor lights need to be installed for increased safety.
- Signs need to be replaced.
- Circular entrance table to be sanded and re-varnished.
Dining Room Tables
- De-grease and re-sprayed with paint.
- Rubber stopper on table feet to be replaced.
