Edenvale Police Station spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the body of the child was found yesterday morning (July 2) in a dustbin on Fifth Avenue.

Edenvale SAPS has appealed to the community for assistance to aid an investigation into the case of the concealment of the birth and death of a baby girl.

Edenvale Police Station spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the body of the child was found yesterday morning (July 2) in a dustbin on Fifth Avenue.

“While taking refuse to the street a domestic worker was approached by a plastic recycler who found the body in a black bag in the bin. The woman saw what appeared to be a stillborn child and reported the matter.”

He said paramedics declared the child dead on the scene.

The NEWS was told by a community member that the body was discarded in a dustbin near the Tree of Hope Baby hatch.

Founder of Tree of Hope Lelani le Roux, who was at the scene with other first responders, believes the baby was a late-term abortion.
