Collision reported in Greenstone

Minaar urged motorists to obey the rules of the road.

One driver was left in a critical state after a collision occurred in Greenstone at the intersection of Emerald Boulevard and Modderfontein Road on the morning of June 18.
Spokesperson of the JMPD chief Supt Wayne Minnaar confirmed a truck and motor vehicle were involved in the collision.
“The traffic lights were working at the time of the collision, so the cause of the accident will be investigated.”
Minnaar added one driver was critically injured and airlifted to hospital.
Emergency care practitioner Karen Naude from EmerGmed was one of the first responders on the scene and provided more details of the collision.
According to Naude, she was not sure how many other people were injured.
“I was focusing on the one critical patient, the driver of the delivery truck.
“Other first responders were also on the scene.”
Naude added the driver was still stuck in the truck when the helicopter arrived.
“At one point, the driver went into cardiac arrest and the medics performed CPR on the patient.
“Fortunately, his pulse commenced and he was airlifted to Milpark Hospital,” said the paramedic.
Minnaar urged motorists to obey the rules of the road.
“Skipping robots can result in serious and fatal collisions.
“If a robot is not working, the intersection should be treated as a four-way stop.”
The road has been cleared of any debris.
