Edenglen High welcomes back learners

On June 8, matrics and Grade Seven learners returned to school as regulations are lifted and the school year resumes.

For Edenglen High School (EGHS) learner and head girl Michaela Peterse, it was a day to say goodbye to digital learning and welcome back normal teaching.

“For the first time in many years, abandoning my blankets on a winter’s morning was as easy as A, B, C. I was thrilled to go to back to school,” said Michaela.

Welcoming the Grade 12s were EGHS teachers who ensured learners went through and understood the health and safety process.

“When my friends came, we stared at each other and broke out in laughter.

“I guess it was our coping mechanism because we could not hug each other and as the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine,” explained Michaela.

With a programme set out by teachers and staff, Michaela and the other three head prefects spoke to their peers, encouraging one another to keep their eyes set on their goal.

“We were excited to spread positivity. We believe we still have so much that we can do, despite the circumstances.”

Michaela said with the end of her second first day of 2020 it felt good to be at school.

She said she was impressed by the atmosphere created by her fellow matrics.

“It was a day filled with hope, happiness and laughter.”
