Lucas said the school needed to do what is necessary to mitigate the risks the Covid-positive learner potentially posed to others while on the school property.

“Today we have been in contact with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, the Department of Health and the relevant officials at the Department of Basic Education. We have followed all the protocols and are fully compliant in every regard. None of the four learners were infected at the school.”

“The presence of the one learner who had tested positive has placed some of our staff and learners at potential, heightened risk. To be safe and err on the side of caution, we opted to continue with digi-schooling for all learners until June 19,” said Lucas.

She said through the online platform schooling will not be interrupted.

“The team of officials tasked with tracking and tracing will determine whether the matric learner who had been at school had placed any other learners or staff at risk during her contact with them,” said Lucas.
