More movement means possible more patrolling

There have been some sporadic crimes, especially concerning theft.”

Bedfordview SAPS calls for more vigilance and social distancing as greater movement will become apparent during Level 3 of the lockdown.
Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Capt André de Jager affirms crime has remained steady but containable.
“There have been some sporadic crimes, especially concerning theft,” said de Jager.
He said the station does patrol hotspots.
“The Bedfordview Police Forum has also assisted us with this during lockdown,” said de Jager.
With the president moving the lockdown to Level 3, de Jager said most businesses will now be open.
“We at Bedfordview SAPS urge business owners in the area and surrounds such as Meadowdale and Elandsfontein to be more vigilant when they open shop, if they are not open already.”
He said owners should increase security, not due to being a target, but to take the extra precaution as there may be criminal intent.
De Jager said patrolling may increase.
“We will definitely be more vigilant with our patrols. We will continue to combat crime to the best of our ability.”
Regarding exercising, he said cautioned joggers and cyclists to also be vigilant.
“You cannot exercise in a group, but try to make sure someone is with you while maintaining social distancing. Thus, try not to be alone where you can be an easy target,” said de Jager.
As for schools reopening, he said Bedfordview SAPS members will be deployed to make sure schools are adhering to safety regulations.
