SAPS identify decrease in lockdown contravention

Seven community members were detained for non-compliance.

During the third week of Level 4 lockdown, Edenvale SAPS identified a notable increase in compliance of lockdown regulations.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said seven community members were detained for non-compliance.

This amount is a sharp decrease compared to the approximate 37 detained in the first two weeks of Level 4.

“Compliance appears to be getting better,” said Mashile.

“The seven detained were found to be loitering and businesses operating without the necessary paperwork.”

Mashile explained that with an increase in traffic and community members out of their homes officers have integrated lockdown enforcement into crime prevention.

“Community members seem to have realised the need to follow procedure and regulations.”

He added that residents in the policing precinct are reporting those breaking lockdown regulations.

Mashile highlighted numerous additional arrests were made by officers.

Although he could not say how many arrests were made, they included arrests for domestic violence, possession of suspected stolen property, common theft, shoplifting and bribery.

Community members are advised to report a crime to 10111 08600 10111 and 011 553 8600 (Edenvale Police Station).
