CoE and Veer Steel Mills help disadvantaged families

Veer Steel Mills partnered with the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) to donate 300 food parcels to indigent families in Thembisa and Germiston on May 13.

Department of Community Safety MMC Frans Mmoko joined the corporation’s food drive at Makro Meadowdale, where the food parcels were bought and packaged.

Mmoko said CoE understands the socio-conditions of its people and their conditions.

“Fifty of the 300 food parcels were distributed to identified families in Germiston, the rest of the parcels were delivered to Thembisa.”

Neil Reddy from Veer Steel Mills said the Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the corporation?s surrounding areas, which are the lifeblood of the company.

“It was our responsibility to ensure that the communities are provided for. We need to ensure communities are best-equipped to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

“Communication campaigns tailored to local languages and with customs and cultures kept in mind must be in place to consistently raise awareness, reinforce health-care practices and instil a sense of accountability within areas,” said Reddy.
