Methodist Homes’ villages across Gauteng and North West Province celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12.

Methodist Homes Arbor Village honoured nurses on May 12 for International Nurses Day.
Arbor Village manager Denise Stanton said International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world to mark the contributions nurses make to society.
The theme for 2020 was Nursing the World to Health as stated by Denise and marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

“Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) acknowledges the importance of their valued nursing staff who provides professional and passionate care to the elderly.”

She said the day is a highlight on the MHA calendar, as this day marks the recognition of nurses all around the world who dedicate their lives to caring for the ill and elderly.

Care staff at Arbor Village in Bedfordview had a moment of silence for all those who have been affected by Covid-19 on International Nurses Day.

“During this time of pandemic, many of the care staff at Arbor Village chose to stay on the premises to ease the difficulties of travelling to work whilst our country is in lockdown,” said Denise.

She saluted the tremendous personal sacrifice and assures it has not gone unnoticed by management or residents.
According to Denise, the village celebrated in their own special way, with a candlelight reading of the Nurses’ Pledge, a re-commitment to their calling, at the change of shift.

“Care staff were also treated to a muffin and hot chocolate before walking through a guard of honour by the residents as a sign of their appreciation, not only during this Covid-19 pandemic, but always,” said Denise.
She added residents and staff also observed a one minute of silence in memory of all those who have passed due to Covid-19 and as a sign of solidarity for all those who are infected with the virus.
“Arbor Village has implemented strict measures in a bid to protect all residents, nurses and staff during the pandemic,” said Denise
