Hart expresses outrage after item taken form homestead

Ward 18 Clr Heather hart has expressed outrage after the Horwoods’ Farm homestead was broken into in recent weeks.
Believed to be built in the early 1900s when Edenvale was first founded, the homestead has a strong connection to Edenvale’s past and is a heritage site.
However, continued vandalism and deterioration led to the homestead falling apart.
In 2017 clear view fencing was erected around the property to protect what remained of the homestead.
Despite this effort, individuals most recently got through two layers of fencing and took two gazebos from inside the property.
The gazebos are used by local market organisers.
Heather believes the persons in question dismantled portions of the fences on the Homestead Road side of the park to gain entry.
Hart believes the act was committed by criminals among Edenvale?s homeless community, some of which have lived in the park for several years.
“Whoever did this decided that they needed drug money and broke into the homestead.”
Hart said on a previous occasion the homestead was broken into and gardening equipment, used to maintain the park, was stolen.
When questioned by the NEWS on May 6, Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said he was unaware of any case related to the matter.
