Law enforcement agencies, with the assistance of the SANDF, recently cracked down on several businesses in Edenvale CBD.
On May 5, a joint operation between the SAPS, EMPD and SANDF saw the authorities confiscate expired food products from businesses.
Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the operation was conducted after authorities received information about what was occurring.
Some items confiscated included cooldrink, flour, rice, tea, chips and maize meal.
“The confiscated products were removed from the store and taken to Edenvale Police Station,” said Mashile.
“The items will be destroyed as they are unfit for human consumption,” he said.
Mashile said none of the business owners were arrested; however, they were warned about selling expired products in the future.
